Knicks 2010
In looking at all the rumors- and honestly- based on what we've heard we can all be sure of one thing, no one knows anything for sure yet. But if the latest Amare to NYK rumor is true I think the best scenario we have left now (including where other players go) is LeBron and Amare to NYC, DWade stays, Bosh is the lone man to end up in Chicago and the rest of the players return to their hometowns (ok maybe Boozer to Miami and teams up with DWade... but thats not the scariest thing we can imagine...)
This would bring the East back to the 90's- NYK, Miami, Chicago (and ok, add in Orlando) rivalries renewed. Otherwise thinking of the potential teams/players LeBron could end up with, pretty much any of the top FA's, no matter who the Knicks fill up the roster with we will again play second fiddle to wherever LeBron goes. ...and as most of the true Knicks fans, tough to say David Lee is not part of the ideal play right now... |

Baseball insider Joel Sherman wrote the following for Sports Illustrated today:
A couple folks inside the Yankees' clubhouse say they believe that LeBron James will be headed to New York as a Knick in a couple years. How they know this, well, they didn't say. But my guess would be that Sabathia, who knows James from his Cleveland days, expressed this opinion to them. I am sure he wouldn't give away any secret like this publicly, so there's no sense in me even asking him. But it's something to watch for.

We all know by now with the cap situations and the Knicks still having to pay a few players like Eddy Curry and Jarred Jeffries past 2010, keeping both Nate Robinson and David Lee could potentially be a problem to signing a second superstar. Jay Greenberg of the NY Post wrote about this today. Heres what his piece comes down to: "Should it come down to either Robinson or David Lee this summer to save space for a proposed Robin to accompany the theoretical Batman the following July, the Knicks will have a hard time choosing Lee, a revelation who has recorded 21 consecutive double doubles. That's how dynamic Robinson has been." Lets get real. Get rid of Nate. David Lee has the most double doubles in the league this season. Nate's a knucklehead who takes way to many bad shots. Don't get me wrong, the guy is amazingly impressive and as everyone says (and I agree) he is a freak of nature. But get rid of him, the Knicks shouldve pulled the trigger on the Nate & Jeffries for Kenny Thomas deal at the deadline last week. On Monday at the Knicks game, I was discussing Nate with some of the other teams scouts. While Nate was exploding for 42 points, they were discussing and explaining how they want nothing to do with him. Nate would make a shot and then they would turn to me "andddd there's Jarret Jack [Nates man] wide open for another three." I can't tell you how many times during the game a line of that sort came up. "And the mouth on him! look at him talking again, someone needs to tell him to just play basketball." Every shot Nate hit they were nervous because they knew it could (would) turn into a terrible one. Mike D'Antoni has said himself: "the good thing about Robinson is he can get a shot anytime he wants and the bad thing about Robinson is he can get a shot anytime he wants." |

Great Day for the Knicks- Unloaded multiple bad pieces from the Isiah Era and picked up 2 pieces that can help for a 2009 playoff push and have no effect on 2010. Donnie just continues to show he got what it takes to make the right moves and still get where you want to go. Cavs GM Danny Ferry might want to start taking notes if he wants to keep LeBron (or add a big piece to his roster in the next 30 minutes) update: 2:05 The Knicks have swung two deals. No. 1: Tim Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson to Chicago for Larry Hughes. No. 2: Malik Rose and cash to Oklahoma City for Chris Wilcox. Just over an hour to go before the trade buzzer sounds . . ." update: 1:55 pm "A source with knowledge of the trade disclosed it to ESPN.com, saying it was agreed to early Thursday afternoon. It was unclear whether there were any additional parts involved in the trade." Link to the release: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3918993 update: 1:37 pm Chad Ford: The Chicago Bulls made their second big trade in two days on Thursday agreeing to send Larry Hughes to the Knicks for Jerome James and Tim Thomas, two league sources told ESPN.com. 1:25pm: It is not immediately clear if this would be two separate trades or a three-way exchange, but I'm hearing that Oklahoma City's Chris Wilcox -- who went back to the Thunder on Wednesday night when the Tyson Chandler trade was rescinded -- and Chicago's Larry Hughes are New York-bound. To complete the transaction(s), Oklahoma City would get Malik Rose and Chicago would receive Tim Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson. Trying to nail it all down for you.

A very good article by ESPN’s Chris Sheridan here: The supposed “bombshell” he refers to is actually not a bombshell it all – Stern simply stated that the salary cap will probably decreases a bit over the next few seasons. It is all hypothetical at this point. But either way – it only means a few million plus-or-minus towards the 2010 cap-number. As we have known for a while, there is no way the Knicks can keep both Lee and Nate Rob, regardless if the cap is at 60 or 57 million. But the article does a great job of breaking down the Knicks 2010 cap-commitments; including the phantom cap holds that all too often gets overlooked.
First and foremost, let’s get this out of the way – there is NO way the Knicks commit any 2010 money to Nate Robinson. For reasons to numerous to list here; Nate is not part of the long-term plans for a championship franchise. He is simply too much of a gamble. So Walsh’s main goal for the next few days (and then next summer) is to try and pawn off Nate with Jefferies expiring contract. If they have to lose Nate for nothing in 2010, so be it – but Walsh and company will not let him eat into their Twenty-Ten plans. As for D Lee – that is a whole different story…

"Knicks center Eddy Curry was slapped with a shocking sex-harassment suit Monday by his former driver, who claims the 6-foot-11 hoopster tried to solicit gay sex from him" reported by the NY Post today. So, beyond being slow, overweight, playing only 2 min and 38 seconds this whole season due to "injury", and having a contract that extends beyond 2010, Eddy Curry is costing the Knicks by lowering his trade value even further.
It's no secret there isn't much interest out there for a guy who's out of shape and has the propensity for being lazy. But the guy is known for holding some of the best potential in the NBA (as well as being known as one of the biggest underachievers). Its tough enough to get someone to buy into the potential Curry has, especially as he gets older and fatter, and this does not help. At this point the Knicks need to showcase Curry (if there is such a thing for him these days)- adding a sexual harassment suit does not help his trade value. Lets hope his contract is still somewhat movable. Some ridiculous notes from the NY Post Article regarding the accusations:

LeBron has 3 very notable quotes during this interview: 2) Responding to a question about how excited Knicks fans are about the possible 2010 signing:"Um, well, I don't know if its going to happen, I don't know, I'm so focused on this season and what we have on task with the Cavs, but at the same time you have to stay open minded if you're a Knicks fan" 3)"If you guys want to sleep right now and not wake up til July 1st, 2010, well go ahead because its going to be a big day"

Back on November 28th, the Daily News spoke with William Wesley, a "a close friend and adviser" to James. As reported by the Daily News: "When asked during Wednesday's Knicks-Pistons game at Auburn Hills if he feels the Knicks are the favorite to sign LeBron in two years, Wesley smiled and said: "Barack Obama could use Donnie Walsh to clear salary-cap space for the country." Rare basketball note: James Knicks-bound?

The Knicks as of right now will already be under the salary cap in 2010 enough to sign a big name free agent like LeBron. However Curry's contract is the last standing piece that, if moved, could potentially allow the Knicks to also sign a second big name free agent if their cards fell right- which could be a big drawing piece for a guy like LeBron. Imagine telling him in negotiations "Hey we're also signing [insert any of Bosh, Amare, Nash etc here] if that makes a difference."
