Jason Kidd

Alan Hahn of Newsday says the second half decline and health of Chris Duhon that the possibility of the Knicks signing Jason Kidd this summer is very real.

He says, “Kidd, 36, is on the decline, but he is still one of the NBA’s most prolific passers. On Sunday, he had 20 assists in the blowout win over the Suns and he ranks fifth in the NBA with 8.6 assists per game. Though his defense is weak and his outside shooting is a problem, Kidd possesses the veteran leadership the Knicks lack. Plus, he could attract other top players who would want to play with him.”

The problem with signing Kidd is that he won't take a 1 year deal. That means his money will cut into the money that will be available in 2010 for other free agents.

The question then becomes, Will Kidd at 37 in 2010 be enough of a draw along the likes of David Lee, Wilson Chandler and Danillo Gallinari to persuade LeBron to leave Cleveland? Or more directly Mo Williams vs Jason Kidd?

It would be nice to lock up a marquee name and further the recruiting process since Kidd and LeBron are tight, but I'd rather have more money free in hopes that the Knicks can move Jared Jeffries or somehow move Eddy Curry, I'd like to have that money to take a shot at LeBron and another big name like Chris Bosh.

The NY Post talked today about the possibility of Jason Kidd joining the Knicks next season:
"Kidd said when he becomes a free agent this summer, he would consider the Knicks because of his love of coach Mike D'Antoni and the Garden, even though he would have to take less than market value.

It makes sense for Kidd, too. He played for D'Antoni during the Olympics and his children still attend New Jersey schools because of his divorce to Joumana. A family source said T.J. would love Kidd to become a Knick and return to the area."

"Why not [consider the Knicks]," Kidd said. "I'm going to look and see."

Having a great veteran point guard like Jason Kidd, who LeBron knows from his time on the Olympic Team, could be a drawing point in 2010.

When asked specifically about the Knicks landing James Kidd replied: "It's a great place - one of the best stages in professional sports. So you talk about the likes of those free agents, you have a better situation in not only getting one but two."
