Andre Miller
Credible sources have been reporting since last year that the combination of his relationship with D'Antoni and his affinity for New York City, where he makes his home each summer, would allow the Knicks to to nab the two-time MVP for the mid-level exception or some even speculated for the biannual exception of only 1.9 million! Both thoughts now appear to have been severely misguided considering Nash will be pulling in $11 million per on his 2 year extension. First Kidd, now Nash and all of a sudden the 2010 point guard crop has become incredibly thin. If you look through all the unrestricted free agents the next summer, the best available PGs are now Chris Duhon and Steve Blake. Frank Isola of the New York Daily News has learned that free-agent Andre Miller met with Donnie Walsh on Monday at the Knicks' practice facility north of New York City. Miller is hoping to sign for more than the mid-level exception which is the most the Knicks can offer without entering into a sign-and-trade with Philadelphia. Isola mentions that the Knicks could send Chris Duhon to the Sixers in a deal to bring back Miller. All of a sudden the idea of giving Andre Miller a multi-year deal doesn't sound so crazy. The Knicks need a floor general and Miller needs a home. Maybe a 2 year deal with a player option next summer gets the Miller to New York. Offer him a year of D'Antoni's offense inflating his numbers while having the security of the a mid-level contract next summer if he sees little opportunity as a free agent. And is it just a coincidence that Donnie Walsh and Miller had a sit down today? I don't think so. If any FA is coming to New York next summer they're going to want to see a stable and talented leader running the point and Andre Miller is the most established name left out there that fits that criteria. Its been a rough summer for Knick fans, but if they can get Miller for the mid-level or the slightly inflated mid-level in a sign and trade for Duhon, things may begin heading in the right direction with Miller pointing the way.
